Frida Hyvönen.

At least one of our readers already know this song very well, but I have to overlook that fact, because this song's just too beautiful to keep your ears away from. You all know Frida, so I'm not gonna tell you a lot about her. Best experienced while lying on a comfortabel piece of furniture.

CanCon

In Canadia we have this thing called CanCon, where they make all the radio stations play 35% canadian content. So, here's my attempt to adhere to Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Comission broadcasting standards, even if it is only a minute and a half:

It comes from an an old Simian album from 2002, before they were Simian Mobile Disco.

Sally Shapiro.

Let's continue on the italo week... Behind Sally Shapiro lies a swedish duo; Johan Agebjörn makes the music and Sally (who's last name seems top secret) contributes with her fragile, naive voice. The music is typically 80's sounding but Sally's song adds a slightly more modern touch to it. Album "Disco Romance" is out since last christmas. Enjoy!

no señor

It's italo week it seems.

I've got just about no pertinent information to give about this, all my data collection sources have failed me. So I guess it will ahve to stand on its own. Don Quixote y Sancho Panza no estan aqui...

Hot Cold (Spagna) - love is like a game

This is a powerful but forgotten italodisco hit. I heard that last time we played this song out there was a guy who went so crazy that he ripped his underwear!

Hafdis Huld.

Hafdis Huld is from Iceland, and she's former singer of the band GusGus (which i know nothing about). What I know is that her music slips around somwhere between soft folk pop and (a little bit of) delicate electronica. Hafdis seems to be popular in Iceland and I think she deserves some of our attention too. This song is my favorite so far. Of course a plus for the cute girls in the video. It's hard to hang out with Tomoko...

carla bruni

Just in time for Valentine's Day...

There's been quite a bit of hype around Carla Bruni in the past few months, so I decided to do some research. I've concluded that the hype is completely unwarranted and that her new album is some awful hybrid of Norah Jones and Keren Ann (nothing against the latter, however). Luckily, I went for her previous album first, which is actually quite nice-sounding. So here it is, "Quelqu'un m'a dit," which translates as "Someone Told Me." The video is a pleasant experience too, like a contemporary Françoise Hardy. Except for the creepy Italian guy in the window behind... I don't know what's up with that.

Peter Nilsson - Song for Stina

A friend of mine, Elin, sent me this song a couple of weeks ago and I instantly liked it and somehow I recognized it. Now I remember that I heard it on L'amour à trois where it was posted a couple of months ago. The song is "Song for Stina" by Peter Nilsson, also a member of CDOASS, and I thought that it would be a nice song to share. To be honest I’ve played it a lot recently and the two lines, "When the two of us are far apart, When there’s no one there to hold you tight", I really like them. The only thing missing for me is someone to associate the song with. You can hear some of Peter Nilssons other songs on his myspace where I’ve stolen the picture of him

Popundret.

Popundret had their greatest years in the middle of the 90's and released an ep '94, a cds '95 and an album '96. Despite of their catchy Smiths smelling pop, they never got any big audience. Sad because, musically speaking, they had something. Maybe they could have stolen some of Morrissey's star quality... I had a hard time choosing one song, so here are two lovely songs.

Replicas

After watching a performance by Tubeway Army on a DVD of The Old Grey Whistle Test that appeared on the coffee table of a friend's apartment, I am prompted to share a bit more Gary Numan with the world. This one is "Me! I Disconnect From You," from the Replicas album. Synthetic, icy, great.

AIH - We died they remixed

Back in 2005 when the album In case we die was released I met a girl in a pub in Kalmar and after a while we left together. She was examinating my cd/lp collection and she couldn’t find her new favourite album (In case we die ) and went really disappointed with me and took the bus home. (The next week I actually bought the album)

At the end of 2006 AIH released We died they remixed and I immediately fell for the last track Like A Call (Buy Me Now I'm Cheap Remix By Jeremy Dower.) It reminds me of that girl and sounds very smooth and maybe I’m perverted but I can imagine this song as a soundtrack for some kind of soft porn.

Alpenpop, Säkert! & Miss Li.

As Erik wrote I've been away in a foreign country, with almost no signs of civilisation, called Austria. Except from practising my skills in snowboarding, I've also studied the Austrian music scene. Maybe I haven't got the whole picture since the only band I've seen was a swedish after ski band. The Irish people sure liked when they played U2, scary. Although, the last day, the band played Bloc Party and The Smiths for me, so I forgave them. Else it seems like alpenpop is still very popular. Ok, so now to the post. I thought I should have time to post this before i went abroad, but the time ran away from me, as always. So here you are, one week too late.

Säkert! is the new project from Annika Norlin (a.k.a. Hello Saferide). This time she sings in swedish, and it
works out totally perfect with me. The first single from the album is called "Vi kommer att dö samtidigt". Makes me dance around my apartment a bit.

Säkert! - Vi kommer att dö samtidigt

This next song might make me dance even more, and it makes me do those presumably stupid looking dance steps. Quite charmy.

Miss Li - Seems like we lost it

Altered Images

I stumbled across Altered Images about a month ago, and posted it in my own blog, but who knows who's reading that, so I've decided to send it over here in addition.

Altered Images began in the early 1980s and had the support of John Peel and Siouxsie & The Banshees. They had a few hits and then disappeared like just about every other New Wave band, but they left behind some pretty great stuff anyway. The only thing is, they don't really look as cool as they sound...
